High-altitude Hikes via Mountain Lifts

Lake Rifflsee is the starting point for numerous hikes. Whether you fancy a hike around the lake with your family, or simply a hike down to the valley, or perhaps even a longer tour – Lake Rifflsee offers something to suit everybody.
- Rifflsee Lake Circuit
The summer hike around the Rifflsee (approx. 1 hour walking time) is suitable for families (even with push chairs) and more casual walkers. - The Fuldaer High-altitude path
The Rifflseebahn cable car takes you up to 2,300 m above sea level. From there the high-altitude trail is rather level, without any major climbs.Two short, but easy passages are secured with wire cables. This is a wonderful tour for hiking enthusiasts. - The Rifflsee Hut
The newly renovated Rifflseehütte up at 2,289 m above sea level offers comfortable guest rooms, a sun terrace with spectacular views, as well as the best Tyrolean food. The hut is about a 30-minute walk from the mountain station. - Cottbus High-altitude Trail
The Cottbus high-altitude trail begins around 50 m up from the Rifflsee. This route requires prior alpine experience, sure-footedness and a good head for heights. After walking for around 3.5 hours, you will reach the Kaunergrathütte - Offenbach High-altitude Trail
This high-altitude trail is medium difficulty, traversing over the Wurmtalerkogel (3,225 m). Walking time from the Rifflseehütte to the Taschachhaus is approximately 6 hours. This path is currently closed due to rock fall hazards. Closure does not include the following part: Offenbacher high-altitude trail Rifflsee – Wurmtaler Kopf – Taschachhaus
The Pitztal Glacier offers the opportunity to undertake a glacier hike, enjoy stunning views, and go on guided family glacier tours. Catch the Wildspitzbahn lift, Austria's highest mountain lift all the way up to 3,440 m.a.s.l.
